AVAILABLE LIGHTS INFRONT OF US WHICH WE DON'T SEE! PART-1

As all of our previous blogs are about lighting types, one may wonder, how to produce these type of lighting  when we are on a low budget? Because most of the lighting shown and discussed are produced in a studio with controlled environment. We may be low on our budget, but not on our skills. This is the time to look our surroundings and make the desired light on our

AFTERNOON SUNLIGHT :

The afternoon sunlight which we encounter on our daily basis is a hard-light. That means it creates hard shadows and it shows texture sharply(pretty rough actually). When we have subjects like close-up of a tree bark/close-up of a hard rocky surface/ to capture the shadows in more detailed way, etc., we can make use of natural hard sunlight.

Well, working in hard sunlight is quite a challenge. We need to have a little patience while we are shooting our subjects in afternoon hard sunlight.

As we said earlier, hard light is extremely good for shadows.

With the help of hard light, we can show the details in a much better way. We can present the details sharply.

In the first picture, shadows of some big grills which are formed on the walls have been captured. Well, if we use soft light here, the shadows will be diffused. With diffused shadows on the shot, we cannot be able to tell the shape of the object at all.

MORNING AND EVENING SUNLIGHT :

The ones with the early waking habit are lucky because they can be able to use the morning golden light in their shots. Golden light is the sunlight which is available after 1 hour of sunrise and before 1 hour of sunset. Now this golden light is soft and smooth in nature. The radiance of this light is so heart warming. We can use this type of light to take some smooth portraits. An added advantage while taking portraits in soft light is, it adds smoothness to our subject's skin as well. Same thing goes for evening golden light as well.

In the first picture, we can see if not fell the radiance of the golden sunlight. The photo had been shot in the morning time. The light doesn't cast any shadows and the nature of ight is diffused. Due to the diffusion nature of light, the nature of the shot is smooth.

In the second picture, a small girl is being shot in the evening time. The sunlight on her face is quite soft in nature. It doesn't created any hard shadows. This is well shot, strictly speaking, it's less of a portrait, but it depicts the smoothness well. The sunlight supplemented the smooth skin of the girl.

This is a image which is used for reference of nature of sunlight.

TAKEAWAY NOTES :

  • When we are low on budget, we can always use the natural light.
  • Morning and evening sunlight is soft light. It's always good for portraits.
  • Afternoon sunlight is hard light. It is good for showing textures and to show hard shadows and to show fine details.
Have A GOOD DAY! Keep SMILING😄
